Cynthia Hailey awarded the NCCES-Union County Center Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) Small Business Scholarship

Mrs. Cynthia Hailey of Monroe, NC has been awarded the premiere EFNEP Small Business Scholarship. The award is exclusive to a Union County EFNEP graduate that owns or is starting a small business. The $125.00 scholarship was made possible by a donation from Grier Funeral Service, 115 John McCarroll Ave. Charlotte, NC.

Mrs. Hailey describes herself as a home manager, a wife, and a homeschooler of 4 children. She has been baking cakes since the age of 10. Her love for making delicious desserts developed from many years of baking with her mother and godmother. Soon many of these great recipes will be available for you to enjoy, as well as, many wonderful new recipes at the Union County Farmer’s Market. Mrs. Hailey’s delicious cakes and baked goods have been a staple in the community for years and have thrived on word of mouth and satisfied customers.

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, (EFNEP) is a program that offers simple solutions to help families eat smart and move more. The program consists of 9 one hour classes, for participants that qualify. Participants in the classes learn about nutrition facts, healthy recipes, menu planning, budgeting at the supermarket, food safety and sanitation, portion control, and easy inexpensive ways to incorporate fitness into their everyday lives. The classes are free and offer a hand on food demonstration in each class.

Classes can be held at your site or the Union County Corporative Extension Center located in the Union County Agricultural Services and Conference Center at 3230-D Presson Rd. Monroe, NC. Contact Cheri Bennett at 704-283-3737, for more information.
