Are you still scrounging around for your last minute shopping items? If so, have you considered a Do It Yourself project? Union County 4-H teach youth life skills through our various projects including entrepreneurship, agriculture, animals, wildlife, safety, citizenship, communications, arts and crafts and sewing just to name a few. One of the projects suggested in our arts and craft book focus on quilt making. However, due to the time restraint, I found a quick and easy no sew fleece quilt project for both youth and adults.

The project will take roughly 30 minutes to complete. You will need 2 separate pieces of fleece at 2 yards each or whatever is a comfortable size for you, scissors, pins to hold the fabric down, and tape measure. You can find the fleece material at fabric or salvage stores.

Once you have all of the materials gathered together then lay the two pieces of fleece one on top of the other with the sides you will be using facing out like a hamburger bun. You will pin the pieces together, but leaving space to cut strips around the material. Cut off any loose fabric to make sure it is even all around. Cut a 4 inch square from each corner on both layers of fabric. Once you have completed that task, you will cut 4 inch long strips around the blankets with a width of about 1”. Next is the fun part, begin to tie each strips together. This will create a fringed edge look. You will work around the fabric until there are no more strips remaining. Then voila, the no sew fleece blanket is completed.
