The Union County Extension Master Gardeners have a lot of activities going on in April. The biggest is April 22 and includes the Heritage Festival, the Wild Turkey 5K Race, Run, & Walk, and the Spring Plant Sale.

The Wild Turkey 5K kicks off the Heritage Festival beginning at 8 a.m. The route for the 5K begins at the Extension Master Gardener Teaching Garden and circles through Jessie Helms Park along trails and hills. You can register online at www.mastergardenersunioncountync.org. Proceeds from the race benefit the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue. You can donate cash or supplies for this group at the event. Check their wish list at www.carolinawaterfowlrescue.com.

The Heritage Festival begins at 9 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. with many activities for children and adults. The Union County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers have been planning this event for the past year. There will be educational exhibits, interactive learning stations, vendors, plants for sale, cooking demonstrations, art made by local middle school students from recycled materials, a raffle, and oh yes, food. Come out and enjoy Spring and celebrate your Union County heritage.

The Union County Extension Master Gardener Spring Plant Sale will be at the greenhouse as part of the Heritage Festival. There will be vegetable and herb transplants, fruit plants, and ornamentals for sale. New this year is an online ordering program in partnership with Johnson Nursery called Gardens Direct that will be live April 7-19. You can order and pay for a wide variety of ornamental shrubs and annuals online, they are delivered to the Master Gardener greenhouse at the Ag Center, where you pick them up at the Plant Sale on April 22. Up to 25% of the sales price of each purchase comes back as a donation to the Union County Master Gardener Volunteer program. Check out the wide offering of plants for this new part of the Plant Sale at www.Gardens-Direct.com.
