Each year the Union County Chamber of Commerce offers a leadership development program that provides participants the opportunity to meet community and civic leaders, explore key issues impacting our region, establish quality business contacts, and develop lasting friendships. The program is called Leadership Union.

Annually the Chamber of Commerce puts out a call for applications to interested Chamber members in late summer. A completed application, reference letter, and fee are required. The group meets one day a month through the year except for July & December.

As part of this program the Chamber of Commerce partners with the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Union County Center for an Agriculture Day. Extension staff makes arrangements for the group to tour a wide range of agriculture operations to learn about the diversity of agriculture operations that we have in Union County. We provide an overview of agriculture and its economic contribution to our community. This year we toured a local certified organic farm, an agritourism operation, a poultry, and field crop operation, a business that manufactures & sells poultry equipment internationally, and learned from the Urban Forester about timber operations & value in the county and state of North Carolina.

Here is one quote from the Chamber of Commerce website about the program: “Leadership Union has been an awesome experience. I was born and raised in Union County and never knew that the county had so much to offer.”  To learn more about the Leadership Union program, check out the Chamber of Commerce website.
