Awards Banquet Program 2019

4-H Public Speaking Program

Every Lee County 4-H’er is encouraged to participate in our public speaking program and each year many of our 4-H members take advantage of this opportunity. These events allow 4-H’ers to hone their talents and public speaking skills in front of a crowd of their parents and peers. We were extremely excited to have had the following 4-H members participate at our 2019 County Activity Day, the first opportunity to make a presentation. Thank you to everyone who participated, you are all winners.

Cloverbud Class:  Karla Canseco, Jasmine Harrington, Sarah James, Liah Macias, Vanessa Rodriguez, Yaretzi Salgado

11-13 Year Old Class:  Sally Cabrera, David Chrostowski, Avery Higgins, Matthew Kerley, Nikki Ragland, Robbin Rosas

14-18 Year Old Class:  Suzy Brito, Luz Canseco, Jose Garcia, Ashley Guerrero, Evelyn Guillen, Keven Ramirez, MacKenzie Roche, Paulina Romero, Angel Uy

We are part of the South Central District, 1 in 5 districts in North Carolina. When you go to South Central District events you will see 4-H’ers from 19 counties. There is a District Council made up of all 4-H’ers who reside within the district boundaries. This council holds meetings, makes decisions, and elects officers to serve at all district level meetings. Those 4-H members who traveled to Lincoln County in June for District Activity Day were grouped in rooms by project category, and took turns speaking by age category. They were competing for Gold, Silver, or Bronze awards and the chance to qualify for the State presentations in July.

Avery Higgins, Suzy Brito, and Angel Uy took this trip in 2019 and Angel Uy won a gold medal for her presentation, “One Drink Two Drinks” in the public speaking category about the dangers of alcohol abuse. She qualified for the State presentation and won Gold there too. Congratulations Angel!

Ambassadors

Ambassadors is a 4-H State level program with the mission to empower teen 4-H leaders with the knowledge, skills, and aspirations necessary to be effective advocates for NC 4-H Youth Development. The program strengthens and expands upon 4-H’ers current leadership abilities so they may serve as positive role models for younger youth; build meaningful partnerships with other teens, adult volunteers, and 4-H professionals; and promote the 4-H mission in North Carolina. In 2019 we had 4 Lee County 4-H’ers begin and complete the first Bronze level of the Ambassadors program. This includes an ambassador portfolio that they submitted to the state office for judging. The following 4-H’ers were accepted as Bronze ambassadors.

MacKenzie Roche, Angel Uy, Paulina Romero, Suzy Brito

They have begun the Silver level and recruited a new group to begin the Bronze. For more information about the Ambassadors Program speak to one of them or to Pam Kerley.

Achievement Awards

We use the guidelines set out by the state 4-H Achievement Plan for our county 4-H program. Members are not required to use the plan but are rewarded with scholarship money when you meet plan level goals. A club with many members participating in the plan will be more likely to re-charter at the Emerald Level and be competitive in the club of the year contest. To achieve your highest goals you should plan your 4-H participation and set your goals at the start of your year or immediately after achieving a lower level. Talk with your family and 4-H Leaders. Ask their advice in helping to set your goals and to help you accomplish them. This year we have four outstanding 4-H’ers who are receiving an Achievement award.

Yaretzi Natali – Cloverbud 7-8 Achievement Award ($15)

Oscar Sanchez – Bronze Achievement Award ($50)

Angel Uy – Gold Achievement Award ($100)
