The weather is warming up and the flowers and trees are blooming a sign Spring has sprung. Spring is the perfect time to learn the art of home food preservation. N.C. Cooperative Extension of Edgecombe County will be hosting an Intro to Home Food Preservation series just in time for the summer harvest.

Home food preservation is a perfect way to savor all the wonderful flavors & nutrients of spring and summertime fresh fruits and vegetables. The process of preserving food at home will allow you and your family to have the ability to eat fruits and vegetables all year. Home canned foods bring nutritional value throughout the year. Proper canning procedures need to be followed when processing any foods being preserved for later use.

N.C. Cooperative Extension of Edgecombe County will be hosting an Intro to Home Food Preservation series. This program is a hands-on approach to the art of home food preservation. Participants will learn how to properly freeze, water bath can, and pressure can produce. The series will begin on Thursday, May 16, 2019, and will meet from 1–4 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Edgecombe County Center in the Family & Consumer Sciences kitchen at 201 St. Andrew St. The series will consist of three meeting dates May 16, 23, & 30. Registration and payment are due by May 10. The registration fee is $15 for the series and can be made at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Edgecombe County office at 201 St. Andrew St. Tarboro or mailed to PO Box 126 Tarboro, NC 27886. Checks need to be made payable to Edgecombe Extension Fund.
