September 11, 2020, is National Make Your Bed Day! We all love a bed that is comfortable and inviting. Making your bed with linens that smell fresh and crisp is an added bonus. Here are a few tips to make your bed feel like a little slice of heaven after a long day

  • Baking soda is great way to freshen linen inexpensively. Simply add ½ cup of baking soda to your washer while it is filling with water. Add the linens and allow them to soak for 30 minutes. Then begin the wash cycle. If you have a high-efficiency or front-end load machine, add the baking soda into the basin, then add the clothes and use the soak feature prior to washing. You find that baking soda also levels the Ph balance of the water. Line dry or place in dryer. Linens will be fresh and deodorized.
  • Another trick is to make your own dryer sheets. Take a cotton cloth or make one from an old t-shirt, wet the fabric, wring it out and add five drops of your favorite essential oils. Lavender, orange, and chamomile are some options. During the last 10 minutes of the drying cycle, toss the cloth in the dryer.
  • Storing linen with sachet packets can be expensive. Here is a tip to make your own, simply take your favorite bar of perfumed soap, wrap it in a scrap fabric, sew the ends, and store it with your linens. The scent of the soap will permeate the linens but not the oils.
  • Fluff pillows daily. Pillows should be aired out in the fresh air and sunshine frequently. If you have a foam or latex pillow, run them through the dryer on the no heat cycle to air them out.
