Individuals receiving the Circle of Excellence Award are EFNEP Educators who are masters of outreach and meeting the needs of their participants. They are leaders within their unit and exemplify excellence. Circle of Excellence members are self-directed and consistently look for ways to improve to become more effective and efficient in program delivery and results. They are good program managers and their program is well-known in the county they serve. There are 4 levels for this award and to meet the minimum level requirement you must have been employed for at least six years.

Circle of Excellence Gold Award (Level II)

Nominees must have a minimum of ten years employment and must have been a previous Circle of Excellence winner.

This year’s recipient is Della Hicks of Pasquotank County.

Della is known for her hard work, dedication and unwavering commitment to EFNEP during her 25-year career. She maintains a standard of excellence that is reflected in her programming and outreach efforts. Della’s willingness to mentor new EFNEP educators and ability to tackle challenges head-on makes her an indispensable asset to the entire program. Della is an invaluable EFNEP educator and is well-deserving of receiving the Circle of Excellence Gold Award.

Circle of Excellence Platinum Award (Level IV)

Nominees must have a minimum of twenty years employment and must have been a previous Circle of Excellence Diamond winner.

This year’s recipient is Hazel McPhatter, EFNEP Educator in Scotland County.

Hazel McPhatter, Nutrition Program Associate, has been employed with NC
Cooperative Extension for twenty-one years. During those years, she has tirelessly helped thousands of Scotland County youth develop healthier eating habits and become more physically active. When she is out and about in the community, she is often approached by parents, who thank her for teaching their children the necessary skills to live healthier lives. She
also serves as a positive influence to her colleagues. Many staff look to her for guidance due to her tenure, leadership, kindness and impeccable work ethic. Hazel is ‘one of a kind!’ She exhibits true program excellence, professionalism and is truly deserving of the Circle of Excellence Platinum Award.
