Food Preservation Resources at N.C. Cooperative Extension – Cherokee County Center

Here at North Carolina Cooperative Extension, we know that food safety is an important piece to food preparation. We are dedicated to providing reliable, research-based information in regard to home food preservation to empower individuals and families to safely preserve their food at home.

As your local Extension office, we offer answers to your food safety questions. Realizing there is a risk with food preparation and preservation, we provide access to reliable, evidence-based information. If you find yourself with a food safety question, please give our Family & Consumer Science agent a call: (828)837-2210, extension 5.

We also wanted to give a quick reminder to have your Dial Gauge Pressure Canner checked annually for accuracy. (Weighted gauges are not tested). The Extension Office can test brands such as Presto, Maid of Honor, National, Magic Seal, and Kook-Kwick. Please call to schedule your appointment during normal business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

N.C. Cooperative Extension – Cherokee County Center will soon be offering a Home Food Preservation Series in 2024 including Introduction to Canning, Water Bath Canning, and Pressure Canning classes. To be on the notification list for these classes, join our newsletter or send an email to marlana_baker@ncsu.edu!
