Internet Access has become an important resource within our daily lives during the pandemic. It helps connect our kids to educational material for school, keeps us informed of current events, brings families together through virtual communication, and helps us to maintain our work. In North Carolina, there are many challenges of accessing broadband internet, whether it’s cost or lack of electronic devices used for the world wide web.
The Federal Communications Commission and The North Carolina Department of Information Technology are helping communities access the internet through the Emergency Broadband Benefit. This program provides financial assistance for internet services and devices to connect our community to the web for school or work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Homes can get up $50 or up to $75 on tribal lands in assistance via cooperating internet service providers. Households may also be eligible for a one $100 discount on a computer or tablet purchased through some of the providers.
