What is a 4-H club?
A 4-H club is a group of five or more young people guided by two or more approved adult volunteers. Clubs may focus on a general interest or choose a specific topic to explore together. In a 4-H club, youth learn how to lead meetings, conduct business, participate in community service, and practice public speaking. Along the way, they build confidence, develop leadership skills, make new friends, and have fun.
When do clubs meet and how long are club meetings?
Club meeting dates and times vary depending on the needs of the club. Most clubs meet once a month for about one to one and a half hours. Some clubs may meet more frequently or for longer periods depending on the age of the youth and the activities planned. All 4-H clubs are required to meet at least six times each year.
What happens at a club meeting?
A typical 4-H club meeting begins with a short business meeting that may include the 4-H pledge and discussions about upcoming activities, service projects, or events. After the business portion, members usually participate in a hands-on learning activity related to the club’s topic or project area.
Is there a limit to the number of club members in a club?
The number of members in a club can vary depending on several factors, including the age of the youth, the size of the meeting space, and the number of adult volunteers available to support the group.
