Fall Bulb & Plant Sale

Poster with Plant Sale information

Fall is a busy time for families with many school and athletic events, festivals, and other events to attend. Fall is also the time for planting spring-flowering bulbs.  The Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers of Union County will be holding their annual Fall Bulb and Plant Sale this Saturday, October 16, 2021, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m.  The sale will be at the greenhouse at the Union County Agriculture Center, 3230 Presson Rd, Monroe.

Bulbs that will be available will be unique varieties that you don’t find for sale at garden centers and big box stores.  Varieties will include tulips, daffodils, crocus, as well as several other unique bulbs.

There will also be perennials from the Teaching Garden and a good selection of container trees, shrubs, and fruit plants for sale.  Fall is an excellent time for planting, as plant roots will continue to grow until the soil temperature drops to below 45°F.  This allows plants to establish a good root system and be more tolerant of the heat and drought conditions the following summer.

Stop by and visit the Plant Sale and take time for a walk through the Teaching Garden.  A pavilion, a paver walkway, and an amphitheater have been added in the past year.   The Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers of Union County Class of 2020 have updated the composting demonstration area with new signage to be installed soon.
