Early February Horticulture Programs
Pruning is one of those chores in the garden that is often best done in late winter for many plants. Join us for our first Lunch & Learn of 2020, on Wednesday, February 5 at noon at the Ag Center. The topic is Pruning 101. Bring your lunch and learn the basics of pruning ornamentals and fruit in the classroom.
Join us for the February 6, Successful Gardener meeting and learn steps that homeowners can take to develop and implement your own landscape design. Our speaker will be one of our own Master Gardener℠ volunteers, Suzanne Wilkerson. Suzanne is a popular speaker and always draws a crowd. The program is free, but you are asked to pre-register by calling 704-283-3801.
The February 5 Lunch & Learn will be followed up with a Pruning Workshop on Saturday, February 8, 9 a.m.–noon. We will look at various ornamental trees, shrubs, and fruit in the landscape around the Ag Center and in the Teaching Garden and will discuss proper time to prune, proper pruning techniques, and get some hands-on practice with each. Come dressed for the weather for this workshop and bring your pruning tools. Both of these programs are free, however, pre-registration is requested by calling 704-283-3801.
Online registration is open for the Extension Gardener series of classes that begin on February 11. This is a series of seven classes that meet on Tuesday evenings 6–8 p.m. and is repeated on Wednesday mornings, 10 a.m.–noon. There is a fee for these classes, so you must pre-register. To see the schedule and to pre-register and pay, go to our website.
