How to Stretch Before a Workout, Stretching Before a Workout, Stretching, When many of us think of stretching, the first thing that comes to mind is right before a run or a workout. However, giving your body a good stretch throughout the day can be just as helpful as right before you exercise. From our friends at South Dakota State Extension, stretching can help with the reduction of stress, improvement of blood flow, and help with reducing back pain. When we stretch our muscles, we allow blood to flow throughout our body to other different muscles and joints. We also decrease tension in muscles that can lower our stress levels and keep us feeling better. Some great times to stretch can be right after waking up and right before going to bed. It can even be beneficial to take a nice stretch break after sitting in your office chair at work. One of the most popular activities that involves stretching is yoga. Learning might be a great way to help the body wind down from the everyday tension it battles. So the next time you’re feeling antsy or just need a moment to relax, try a little stretching!
