Union County 4-H Livestock & Animal Science Program

The Union County 4-H Livestock & Animal Science Program offers youth aged 5–18 an experience in animal care, agriculture, and leadership. Through hands-on projects, educational workshops, and community events, participants gain valuable skills and knowledge in various aspects of animal science.

Program Highlights:

  • Diverse Animal Projects: Youth can engage with a range of animals, including cattle, sheep, goats, swine, poultry, and rabbits. Projects focus on animal husbandry, nutrition, health, and showmanship.
  • Competitions and Shows: Members have opportunities to showcase their animals and skills at local and state events, including the Union County 4-H Expo and Livestock Show. Additionally, Union County hosts a Chicken and Rabbit Show, providing youth with further opportunities to present their projects.
  • Skillathon and Quiz Bowl Participation: Youth can participate in livestock skillathons and quiz bowls, enhancing their knowledge and critical thinking skills in animal science topics.
  • Leadership Development: The program emphasizes leadership through roles in club activities, community service, and participation in events like the Union County Teen Council.

Presentation Opportunities:

Participants in the Livestock & Animal Science Program are encouraged to share their knowledge through presentations. These presentations allow youth to develop public speaking skills and deepen their understanding of animal science topics.

Getting Involved:

Youth interested in the Livestock & Animal Science Program can join clubs such as the Union County Ranchers 4-H Club and the Union Academy 4-H Club which meets monthly and focuses on livestock education and activities. Participation does not require owning an animal; the program is designed to be inclusive and educational for all interested youth.
