What is 4-H Congress?

4-H Congress is the largest and most anticipated statewide youth leadership event in North Carolina’s 4-H program. Held annually in Raleigh, this multi-day conference brings together hundreds of 4-H members, volunteers, and extension staff from across the state for an experience that fosters leadership, citizenship, personal development, and community engagement.
Congress provides a dynamic environment where participants can grow their leadership skills, compete in state-level contests, engage in hands-on learning, and connect with like-minded peers. The event is not just about competition; it’s about discovering strengths, building friendships, and preparing for future success.
For many participants, 4-H Congress is also their first experience with higher education, as they stay in dorms at NC State University, explore the campus, and get a glimpse of college life.
Who Can Attend?

4-H Congress is open to anyone ages 13-18, who are eager to enhance their leadership skills, engage in service projects, and connect with peers from across the state.
For many youth, 4-H Congress is also their first firsthand experience with higher education. Because the event is held in Raleigh—home to major universities like NC State—participants often have opportunities to visit college campuses, interact with faculty and students, and explore what higher education has to offer. Whether it’s touring a university, meeting college representatives, or engaging in career-focused workshops, 4-H Congress introduces youth to the possibilities of life after high school and helps them envision their future in higher education.
What Do Participants Do?
4-H Congress is packed with exciting and enriching activities that help youth build confidence, develop leadership skills, and connect with others. Here’s what participants can expect:
