4000 plus youth are currently participating in school enrichment programs with union county 4-h

WHAT IS 4-H SCHOOL ENRICHMENT?

4-H School Enrichment is a sequence of learning experiences for groups of youth, in cooperation with school officials during school hours to support the school curriculum. The evidence-based curriculums are designed to enhance the students’ learning experience. Most curriculums are accompanied with a kit provided by the local 4-H office.

STRUCTURE

4-H school enrichment programs are conducted during school hours in partnership with classroom instructors. The educational experience is delivered by teachers, but 4-H staff and/or trained volunteers may come in to provide lessons as well. For example, 4-H offers the Embryology Program for 2nd grade classrooms. Through this program, students learn about animal development as they incubate and hatch chicks in their class. Union County 4-H provides curriculum training to 2nd grade teachers, as well as provides equipment, curriculum, and fertile chicken eggs for each class at no cost to the school. The 4-H Extension Agent will provide trainings for teachers interested in the curriculum. In return, teachers provide a report with the number of students in each classroom for the Union County 4-H program.

To find out more details regarding the different school enrichment programs, visit the North Carolina 4-H Curriculum website.
