During the summer months, we usually think about exfoliating our skin to remove dead cells, because we are exposing more of our body. Actually, exfoliating is beneficial all year long. It is a ritual that we can do at home to increase blood circulation and relax both mentally and physically.

Here are some of the benefits of skin exfoliation:

·      Exfoliation removes dead skin cells by manipulating the top layer of skin to reveal the healthier skin that was beneath.

·      It actually helps to hydrate your skin by allowing it to better absorb moisturizers.

·      As exfoliating removes dead skin cells, impurities are also removed. This gives the skin a fresh appearance and it invigorates the area that has been exfoliated. This way we feel refreshed when we leave the spa.

  • Dead skin cells can also cause clogged pores. Exfoliating removes this build-up, lessening the chance of body acne.
  • Exfoliating reduces stress. Alone or with a massage, a body scrub experience is a wonderful way to relax. Most manicure and pedicure shops also exfoliate during the procedure.

Basic Scrub Recipe

(About 1 ½ cups) Choose white or brown granulated sugar, finely granulated sea salts or Epsom salts

(A few drops to moisten) Choose olive oil, coconut oil, or your favorite essential oil. A few drops of the juice or peel of fresh fruits or spices can be added, such as orange, vanilla, or lemon to enhance the aroma.

Mix ingredients thoroughly in a jar with a lid. Enjoy and use regularly.
